It's a miracle all that God has done in my life - from being homeless to now serving in the local community.
Kamlesh was working in a restaurant, but left his job, when he applied to renew his visa. At the time, he was living with friends, but his money ran out and he was unable to pay the rent. Kamlesh ended up on the streets and was homeless for about two years. It was during this time that he heard about GrowTH through Whitechapel Mission and was taken to the Day Centre, by a GrowTH volunteer called Danny.
Kamlesh had an interview with one of the advocate workers, called Israel, who was able to offer him a place in the nightshelter for 28 days. During this time, Kamlesh felt a call on his life and started to attend the Bible study in the Day Centre. This led on to him engaging enthusiastically in the Bible studies, run in the evening nightshelters, where he particularly enjoyed the studies run by Rebecca and the team at Bow Baptist Church. The GrowTH chaplain, Rupert, was also able to give him a Bible and provide some pastoral support. During this time, Israel found suitable accommodation with a Christian community for Kamlesh to move onto nearby.
After moving into the Christian community, Kamlesh also joined a local church in Tower Hamlets. He then decided that he would like to get baptised and confirmed. Kamlesh still lives not far from the Day Centre and continues to pop in once a week to attend the Bible studies. He also volunteers once a week with his church and volunteers in the community by visiting the elderly. Currently Kamlesh is waiting to hear about his visa application, after which he hopes to either work for the NHS or study theology!
