LAZARUS HOUSE

"In the house you can talk to everyone, I can really open up and feel supported."

The dream of Lazarus House began in April 2020 with an extremely generous donation from a long-time GrowTH supporter – and we had a bold vision – to open a home where individuals experiencing homelessness could find community, support, and lasting change!

After lengthy searching for the right property, purchasing, and renovating, this vision became reality in May 2025 when the first Residents moved in.

More than just a shelter, Lazarus House is a home where men can address the root causes of homelessness, rebuild their lives, and take meaningful steps toward independence and flourishing.

Why Lazarus House?

The name Lazarus House reflects our belief in new beginnings. Just as Lazarus was called from the tomb into new life (John 11:1-44); we believe that every person, no matter their past, can experience restoration and renewal through hope, support, and a loving community.

Our Foundations: Community, Support, and Partnership

Community

Lazarus House is intentionally built around shared life where the Residents learn from, encourage, and build up each other. Residents gather each morning for devotionals, share evening meals together, and each contribute to the upkeep and atmosphere of the house. It’s a place where belonging, service, and mutual care are at the heart of daily life.

Support

Breaking the cycle of homelessness requires more than just a roof over one’s head. At Lazarus House, residents follow a structured support programme designed to help them address both practical challenges such as, budgeting, mental health, addiction and spiritual growth. Each resident meets weekly with their dedicated housing worker, and also receives pastoral care through regular catch ups with GrowTH’s Chaplain.

Partnership

Lazarus House is a partnership between GrowTH and local churches across Tower Hamlets. Every resident is welcomed into the life of a church community and connected with a designated point person from that congregation. This three-way relationship between GrowTH, the resident, and the church fosters deeper support, accountability, and opportunities for long-term transformation. GrowTH does what we do best – provide accommodation and support, and the Church does what it does best – provide discipleship and family.

The House

Located right in the heart of Tower Hamlets, Lazarus House is perfectly situated to be able to access all our partnered churches easily; making it easy for residents to stay connected to their church communities and get involved in all the God is doing in the Borough. The house currently offers four bedrooms named Cornerstone, Rock, Vine, and River along with a shared lounge, kitchen, and garden space (with further refurbishments to come). Accommodation costs are set at a rate that can be covered by housing benefit so that it is accessible for all who need it.
